Route Types and Path Differences

Route type describes how data is organized between the local access point and the regional exit. It is not a simple ranking label. Distance, access networks, international exit direction, and the location of the target service all affect results, so no single route is ideal for every task.

IEPL

IEPL

IEPL connections organize cross-border links around an enterprise-grade international private-line model. The access and exit segments are typically joined through predefined paths, reducing unpredictable detours across public networks. The goal is not to shorten geographic distance, but to make the path clearer, reduce inter-network handoffs, and limit peak-time fluctuations caused by changes at public exits.

These routes are well suited to ongoing video meetings, remote desktops, code repository synchronization, cloud document collaboration, and development tools that require persistent connections. The destination region should still come first. If the target is mainly in Japan, testing a Japan IEPL route is generally more sensible than crossing several regions to a North American exit.

IEPL routes require more defined link resources and operational investment, so their cost structure is generally higher than direct connections over public networks. For occasional web browsing, an IEPL route may not be necessary. For continuous transfers, persistent sessions, and tasks that demand stable inter-network connectivity, its path design can be more valuable.

A transit route first sends the connection to a suitable access point, then uses a transit node to join the international route and reach the target region. Transit reorganizes the path: when the direct route from a local provider to the target exit takes a significant detour, or inter-network connectivity varies, the transit node can bridge the route.

Transit routes suit everyday browsing, streaming, AI Tools, and general work. They balance coverage, resource costs, and path control, while allowing different entry points for different access networks. Transit is not automatically better than direct. If the transit location is opposite the user or target service, the extra path may increase wait times.

To determine whether transit is suitable, check initial page loads, continuous playback, file transfers, and persistent connections rather than judging only the brief feeling when a connection is established. When the destination changes, switch to a transit exit closer to that region and test again.

Direct Connections

A direct connection uses the public network to connect the current access environment to a regional exit, without an additional dedicated transit entry point. Keep one familiar region as the default exit and switch only for services tied to a specific region, reducing repeated changes to sessions and regional detection.

Streaming first depends on the exit region recognized by the content platform. Choose a route matching the account’s content region, then check the catalog, available quality settings, and continuous playback. “Supported” in the table means the region has an entry point for streaming use; it does not mean every account will show the same content.

Avoid switching exits frequently after playback begins. A regional change may trigger session verification, and the playlist may change as well.
